Opposites

Sounds like sadness have been well hidden
even now nobody has opened its face
spoken it under the clouds in the rain
under the sky, men under the sky
have kept it hidden in the forests
where there are no words.
Only the leaves and the rivulets
and their sounds.

I have taken out this woman called happiness.
I have walked with her.
Hand in hand along the banks of the rivers
bathed in the forest moonlight.
Entered the peaceful silence of my minds.
And not-entered the hearts where
there are no pains, no melancholy droop
of a flower, a leaf,
where there are lofty mountains of thoughts
but no valleys for tears to flow.

Nicely done. I really like this.
“Where there are lofty mountains of thoughts
but no valleys where tears can flow.”
Especially this. All thoughts and no tears… interesting stuff.

Reply: Thank you Simonne. Those two lines are my favourite too.

I like the way you start broad and then narrow down your subject matter yet still interweaving nature into each stanza. “Melancholy droop” was an excellent word choice. Thanks for coming by and reading my sonnets too btw. I appreciate that. Great poem. Kim

This entire poem is powerful. Question. What do you use as inspiration? Do you just think, or do you have a muse, perhaps a woman? friend? loved one?

Reply: First of all, I thank you for your comment. It fills me with newer enthusiasm. Now for your question: I generally just give words to abstract thoughts. That is how most of my poems get formed. Rarely, however, there has been an actual object. But this poem was born out of cerebration only.

Love the resonance in this poem. I like how the first stanza really sets the theme for the second.

I think you come full circle with the first two and the last two stanzas:

Sounds like sadness have been well hidden
even now nobody has opened its face…
…Where there are lofty mountains of thoughts
but no valleys where tears can flow.

What I like best about the poem is the ‘opposites’ theme that you capture so well; the sky imagery vs. the forest imagery, the couple, sadness vs. the name of the “woman called happiness.” Quite lovely and well crafted.

Reply: You read my poem extremely well. I am glad that you like this poem in the same way as I do. By the way, I added you to my blogroll. πŸ™‚

I loved your personification of happiness as a woman, whose hand you held and walked with. Really lovely.
